Bioleft is a network of plant breeders and a seed exchange exploring how open-source principles can be used to create a protected commons in germplasm in Argentina.
The session explores how open-source strategies and radical collaboration with the more-than-human contributes to seed sovereignty and better futures for the agricultural commons.
Almendra Cremaschi (an agronomist and a co-founder of Bioleft) will share her experience in developing Bioleft’s open seed initiative, growing kinships in the wider community and creatively meeting challenges and adapting the project over the years.
Almendra is particularly interested in the new commons and designing strategies that contribute to growing spaces for creativity, collective intelligence and open knowledge on seed sustainability. Her recent research looks at the relationship between the open seed and fair trade movements, working with both Latin American and British movements. She will share her insights on how creative ecological thinking inspires practical work, and visa versa.
This session will be a conversation with Almendra Cremaschi, Becky Ayre and Kate Genevieve.
